What is it?

White Space is a subscriber-based web service which provides detailed analysis of the thought leadership of around 30 leading global consulting firms. This analysis is updated regularly, giving up-to-date market intelligence on the state of the thought leadership market.

In assessing the thought leadership produced by these firms, White Space has looked at around 15,000 items of thought leadership ranging from published articles to blogs and podcasts.

The resulting analysis:

  • provides a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the thought leadership produced by these firms
  • highlights which areas are receiving the most attention and where the ‘white spaces’ are – the opportunities for consulting firms to differentiate themselves from their competitors
  • identifies the up and coming trends in management consulting, on the basis that the topics on which consulting firms generate thought leadership also tend to be those from which they are earning, or plan to earn, much of their fee income


All of the source material is available via the White Space website, together with a detailed evaluation of the quantity and quality of the thought leadership material broken down by sector, by service and by firm.

  • White Space has been produced by Fiona Czerniawska, a well-known commentator and expert on the management consulting industry, since 2003, and has been purchased by many leading firms including McKinsey, Ernst & Young, Booz Allen Hamilton and IBM.
  • White Space has historically been produced as a printed or PDF report, updated annually. Whilst useful, this has had its limitations which has led to the decision to relaunch it as a subscriber based web service powered by Sourceforconsulting.com
  • As an online tool, White Space is updated every month; trends analysis and commentary always reflect the most up to date situation.
