“Source’s 2011 Management Consulting Market Report is, by some distance, the most detailed piece of research into the EMEIA consulting market we’ve seen to date. Further deepening our understanding of the relative size of different geographical, service and sector markets, for us what has made it indispensable is the depth of qualitative research that it has at its heart. Far more than just a market-sizing exercise, the report sheds valuable light on what’s driving demand for advisory services in the first place and on the strategic choices facing each type of consulting firm as it prepares for growth in an uncertain market. I expect it – and future editions – to play an important role in our planning cycle and our ongoing efforts to anticipate and address the changing needs of our clients.” Rob Donnelly, Global Analyst Relations Director, PwC
More information about the report
For most firms, in most sectors, in most countries, 2010 was a year of transition, taking the consulting industry from recession to recovery. But the extent and timing of the turnaround has varied widely: while some European consulting markets, notably Germany and Sweden, have returned to strong growth, others (the UK and Benelux) have simply stopped shrinking. Some barely missed a beat during the recession (India) while others, particularly Spain, saw steep falls in demand. With the worst now over, the key question for consulting firms in this region is where future growth will come and how the recession has changed the consulting landscape. Chief among these trends – and at the heart of our new report – is the extent to which globalisation and specialist knowledge will be the driving force of competition over the next five years. Some consulting services are already a long way from their generic, local roots, but others, especially those that relate to people, process and change are far less evolved. However, responding to these two dimensions of change creates unprecedented strategic and operational challenges for consulting firms, forcing them to re-think what it means to be international and the skills/experience which will differentiate them from an increasingly sophisticated client base.
