A major high street retailer

Boxwood, 2005

Optimising store management structures drives out £4.1m savings

Summary

Faced with a deteriorating trading environment, a major high-street retailer needed to reduce the overall cost of labour in its national chain of stores.

We found that although there were several distinct managerial positions within store, it was unclear whether each role was adding the value intended by the respective job profile.

Working alongside the Operations and HR teams we provided the business with rigorous analysis and a structured approach to enable the reallocation of core tasks to the appropriate level within the store hierarchy. This enabled the leadership team to achieve consensus in identifying the most appropriate store structure for the business going forward.

Implementation of the new managerial store structure across the estate will deliver a cost saving of £4.1m per annum.
