Boxwood, 2007

Improving offshore delivery for a global telco

Summary

Following a major internal restructuring of a leading global telco, all IT development was outsourced to several leading offshore providers. Two years later significant delivery issues were eroding confidence in the offshore model. Boxwood was contracted to examine the situation and make recommendations.

In six weeks we worked across the UK, India and China to understand where processes were breaking down, capability was missing and inappropriate methods were being applied. We conducted over 1500 interviews to arrive at the top 22 ‘problem statements’ that accurately defined the scope of the challenge. We then continued to co-develop with our client and their vendors a series of pragmatic solutions that tackled the root causes.

This was the first time the challenges had been diagnosed together with a scope of work to transform the situation. Boxwood has since been invited to develop a new organisational model to incorporate these solutions that will impact several thousand staff.
