Threadneedle Investments

Navigant Consulting, 2005

Investment and custody operations outsourcing

Summary

Faced with a potentially huge investment in technology to support derivatives management, Threadneedle Investments, the fourth largest retail investment fund manager in the UK with £73bn in assets under management, had reached a crossroads in their evolution.

In September 2005, they chose to outsource all investment and custody operations to a single supplier. Project ‘Quatre Bras’ was to be a highly complex ‘lift-out’ deal within demanding timeframes. Threadneedle also wanted a firm commitment from suppliers to develop and support their future derivatives requirements, mitigating the need to develop these services themselves.

Threadneedle brought in a small team of experienced consultants from Navigant, who managed the process sensitively and professionally. Threadneedle secured a deal which exceeded their expectations and the whole process was completed within twelve months. In September 2006 Threadneedle transferred their Swindon premises together with existing systems and processes and 165 staff to JP Morgan Worldwide Security Services.
